A festive event dedicated to the Day of Reunification of the Donetsk People’s Republic, Luhansk People’s Republic, Zaporizhia and Kherson regions with the Russian Federation (September 30) took place at the Russian Center for Science and Culture (RCSC) in Nicosia. This is reported by a TASS correspondent.

Numerous friends of the Russian Federation gathered at the RCSC, holding Russian tricolors and other flags with images of state and national symbols. The event was held without incident, despite the protest of representatives of the Ukrainian diaspora. The security was provided by the Cypriot police.

The celebrations began with the performance of the national anthem of the Russian Federation. Then the participants of the action observed a minute of silence in memory of those who died in the liberation struggle for the right to self-determination and reunification with their historical Homeland. “This is a truly historic day for the entire multinational Russia, when new regions joined it as full-fledged subjects of the federation. Russians sacredly honor and protect the traditions of unity, mutual assistance and support of all our fraternal peoples at the turning points of the epoch,” Russian Ambassador to the Republic of Cyprus Murat Zyazikov said.

“We are convinced of the brilliant prospects of the new republics and regions, their economic and technological competitiveness, the richest human potential of millions of people who feel and, as a result of their free will, have defined themselves as an integral part of the vast Russian world, whose values and traditions are fully shared and respected by our numerous compatriots in Cyprus,” the diplomat added.

The beginning of the unification era

The celebrations were organized by the Coordinating Council of Russian Compatriots of Cyprus and the Cyprus Society of Russophiles. They set out to explain to those Cypriots who are under the influence of Western narratives that the reunification of the native Russian territories with Russia took place, that before reunification the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics declared their sovereignty, that reunification was the result of a plebiscite conducted taking into account all norms of international law.

According to the chairman of the CSRC Dmitry Apraksin, the reunification marked the beginning of an era of unification of peoples around Russia, who associate with it the protection of their sovereignty, traditions and culture, values that have been passed down from generation to generation for centuries. The head of the Cyprus branch of the International Russophile Movement, Mikis Filaniotis, spoke about his trip to Donetsk, Mariupol and the village of Sartana and meetings there with representatives of the Greek diaspora, who stated that Russia helps them in everything that they feel from its side care and protection.

A teleconference was also organized with Stepan Kuvachev, deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the Zaporozhye region of the first convocation. He drew attention to the fact that the residents of Zaporizhia gladly accepted the vector of traditional values, which are supported by Russia at the state level. The event ended with the performance of the song and the screening of the video “Forever with Russia”, which were the result of the collective work of the creative group of the KSRS. The authors and performers hope that this composition will become another symbol of the cohesion and unity of Russians and their right to preserve the faith and traditions of their ancestors.
