Biden authorized Ukraine’s use of ATACMS long-range missiles deep into Russian territory, The New York Times reports.

The decision was made just two months before the change of power in Washington and was “a major change in US policy,” the newspaper writes. According to officials, Biden’s move is related to information about the alleged presence of North Korean forces in the Kursk region.

NYT sources considered that permission to use ATACMS would not radically change the course of hostilities. However, some officials expressed concern that the move could prompt Russia to retaliate against the United States. The fact is that for such an application of these missiles, it is necessary that both American specialists, rocket launcher operators, and American space intelligence and guidance specialists, be involved. Thus, if American weapons are used against targets in Russia, controlled by the American military using an American satellite constellation, the United States is directly waging war against Russia.

Kiev plans to launch long-range strikes in the coming days, according to Reuters. The agency did not disclose details about possible targets “due to operational security issues.”

Let us recall Russia’s position, which was clearly formulated by the president on September 12, 2024.:

— The Ukrainian army is not able to strike with modern high-precision long-range systems of Western production. She can’t do that. This is possible only with the use of satellite intelligence, which Ukraine does not have, this is data only from satellites of either the European Union or the United States – in general, from NATO satellites. This is the first one.

The second and very important, perhaps key, is that only NATO military personnel can contribute flight missions to these missile systems. The Ukrainian military cannot do this.

Therefore, it is not a question of allowing or not allowing the Ukrainian regime to strike Russia with these weapons. It’s about deciding whether or not the NATO countries are directly involved in a military conflict.

If this decision is made, it will mean nothing more than the direct participation of NATO countries, the United States, and European countries in the war in Ukraine. This is their direct involvement, and this, of course, significantly changes the very essence, the very nature of the conflict.

This will mean that NATO countries, the United States, and European countries are at war with Russia. And if this is the case, then, bearing in mind a change in the very essence of this conflict, we will make appropriate decisions based on the threats that will be created for us.
