The lack of timers and the presence of cameras recording violations are discussed on social networks. In recent years, a large number of accidents have occurred at intersections regulated by traffic lights without timers, in which many were seriously injured, and some even died.

The Minister of Transport noted that setting timers requires finalizing the system of “smart” traffic lights, but such systems have been working for a long time and without failures even in countries with a low level of development.

Timers make movement predictable, reduce accidents, and are actively used all over the world. The Cypriot authorities urgently need to implement these solutions to improve road safety.
