The investigation into the crash of the American military helicopter Black Hawk MH-60 continues. It crashed off the coast of Cyprus on November 10, 2023, killing five soldiers. The Washington Post reports that the helicopter belonged to a secret US unit that carried out missions in the Middle East after the Hamas attack. The crash occurred during night live-fire exercises.

The report, prepared by national security expert Kyle Rempfer, states that three MH-60M helicopters carried out weapons tests during live firing exercises. They took off from Akrotiri, refueled in the air and began dropping ammunition. One of the helicopters failed to gain altitude, crashed into the sea and quickly sank.

According to the publication, the MH-60M helicopters involved in the mission belonged to the elite 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment. These forces, deployed to the region during the Gaza crisis, provided fire support.

The journalists found that they tried to hide the incident under the guise of routine exercises, and the United States refused Cyprus’ assistance in the rescue operation, citing the secrecy of the mission.
