On November 29, Defense Minister Vasilis Palmas reported that “special forces recruits are fully prepared to respond to any situation and meet the expectations placed on them.”

He made this statement at the Green Beret award ceremony and stressed that the recruits had undergone the complex training required for the elite special forces unit of the National Guard.

The Minister wished the cadets “successful and productive service,” noting that the green beret symbolizes excellence, courage and commitment to the high values necessary for service.

“In the army, and especially in the special forces, teamwork is not just a concept, but a way of life and a tool for fulfilling our mission,” said Palmas.

He called on the new commandos to serve with faith and dedication, as well as to be ready for any challenges. The Minister thanked the officers and instructors who passed on their knowledge to the cadets and provided all the necessary resources.

The head of the National Guard, Lieutenant General Georgios Tsitsikostas, said that the presentation of the green berets symbolizes “the successful completion of difficult training and the assumption of serious responsibility.”

“The commandos and special forces of the National Guard are the pride of our army,” he said.

According to him, high mental and physical endurance distinguish soldiers who join the ranks of the elite — “those who at all times put the interests of their country above their own.”

Certificates of honor were awarded to two mothers of three children, all of whom joined the army.

During the events, the commandos demonstrated their skills, including martial arts, rock climbing and rope descent from a 30-meter tower.
