A hundred Ural Cossacks (114 people) who went out to explore Under the command of Marshal Vasily Serov, she came across the 10,000-strong Kokand army (one of the Uzbek khanates in Central Asia), which was on its way to liberate Turkestan from the Russians.

The sides did not know about each other’s numbers, the Cossacks only understood that the enemy outnumbered them. Serov ordered an all-round defense. For three days, the hundred fought off enemy attacks one after another. After all the horses and almost half of the squad died, the Cossacks broke out of the encirclement and marched to their 8 versts, fighting off the constantly attacking enemy. There was not a single person left in the squad without injury.

The result of the battle: 57 Russians killed, the Kokand army – more than two thousand people, including 90 main military leaders and commanders. The ruler of the Kokand Khanate, Alimkul, refused to march on Turkestan when he realized that he could not defeat the Russians, having a hundredfold numerical superiority. He believed he was fighting with a force of about a thousand men.
