According to the latest autumn statistics, 74% of Cypriots express distrust of their government and parliament, which is three points higher than in the spring survey. At the same time, 56% of respondents do not trust the European Union.

While in six EU countries, including Luxembourg (76%) and Denmark (58%), the majority of the population trusts their governments, in 21 countries the situation is the opposite. In Cyprus and Greece, the level of distrust is 74%, which makes these countries one of the leaders in distrust of national institutions.

Cyprus was also among the countries with a pessimistic view of the future of the EU: 44% of respondents expressed dissatisfaction. In addition, more than half of the respondents in Cyprus (51%) do not feel attached to the EU, which puts the country on a par with Greece and the Czech Republic.

Regarding current issues, 50% of Cypriots identified immigration as their main concern. Unlike most European countries, the Cypriots are also strongly opposed to the imposition of economic sanctions against Russia.: Almost 60% of respondents opposed it, while the EU average is 24%. Moreover, 74% of Cypriots are against financing the supply of military equipment to Ukraine, while in other EU countries this figure is 37%.

Thus, the results of the Eurobarometer highlight the growing distrust of national and European institutions in Cyprus, as well as the unique views of Cypriots on international issues.
