Production of crystalline iodine will begin in the Arkhangelsk region

Commissioning works have started at the Severodvinsk iodine water deposit. The Russian Iodine company plans to produce the first products already at the first stage of pilot production — this is 4 tons of crystalline iodine per year. Within five years, the company expects to reach the design capacity of 120 tons per year.

The Severodvinsk deposit is unique: the iodine reservoir is located only at a depth of 120 meters, which simplifies production and reduces costs. The production is completely eco—friendly – the used water is pumped back, preserving the natural balance.

The project will help reduce dependence on imported iodine, which is in demand in pharmaceuticals, microelectronics and polymer production. In the coming years, production may increase to 500-600 tons per year.
