The voluntary enlistment of women in the ranks of the National Guard on Wednesday, February 12, was approved by members of the Cabinet of Ministers.

Vasilis Palmas, a representative of the Ministry of Defense, said that the government’s decision reflects the evolution and modernization of the Armed Forces, and is also an important step for everyone’s contribution to the defense and security of the motherland.

The Minister of Defense said that the first voluntary recruitment of women into the army is expected to take place in early October 2025. Palmas said that the authorities are considering the possibility of two voluntary recruitment of women.:

In early October, for women who have graduated from secondary schools and technical schools
Early May for older women

The Minister of Defense also announced that 2025 has been declared the Year of Women in the National Guard, and measures will be taken to celebrate the valuable role and contribution of women in the army.
