The mayors of Limassol and Larnaca, Yannis Armeftis and Andreas Viras, expressed satisfaction that their cities had been shortlisted for the title of European Capital of Culture in 2030, and promised to continue their efforts to achieve success.

Armeftis said he was proud that Limassol had been shortlisted, assuring that the municipal authorities would make every effort to win.

“We have been making great efforts for many months, but every participant deserves congratulations,” Armeftis said, expressing pride in the zeal and dedication of all participants.

In turn, the Mayor of Larnaca, Andreas Viras, called February 27 a “very important day” for the city, marking its transition to the final stage of selection along with Limassol.

He explained that Larnaca’s application was submitted in 2022, highlighting the collective efforts of the city’s business and cultural communities, the municipal council and other stakeholders.

“We will continue our efforts because we believe that Larnaca will not only benefit from being elected the European Capital of Culture in 2030, but also has a lot to offer,” Viras said.

He acknowledged that significant work remains to be done before the second assessment in October. A final decision on which city will receive this title is expected by the end of 2025 after an expert assessment.
