Cyprus is opening its doors to more foreign universities, and local universities are preparing for increased competition.

A recently passed law sets out a clear framework for foreign universities wishing to work in Cyprus. It introduces strict criteria for ensuring the quality of education under the supervision of the Cyprus Agency for Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Higher Education (Dipae). Foreign institutions must meet the same standards as local universities, including requirements for accreditation and financial sustainability. Although no applications have been received so far, the law is aimed at attracting reputable institutions while maintaining the authority of the country’s higher education sector.

As Cyprus positions itself as a regional educational center, the success of this initiative will depend on the willingness of foreign universities to enter the market and their ability to meet strict regulatory requirements.
