The city of Limassol, which is inextricably linked with carnival, welcomes a new unique space dedicated to the history and magic of Cyprus’ largest folklore festival.

The Carnival Museum, created on the initiative of the Limassol Municipality, offers visitors the opportunity to explore the long tradition of carnival and gain an experience of entertainment and education, while respecting its heritage.

The museum is located in the Panos Solomonidis Municipal Cultural Center and occupies three specially designed floors, representing an interactive space combining education with entertainment. The opening of the museum is an important milestone in the history of the holiday, and in order for as many people as possible to enjoy it, the museum will operate on an extended schedule during this year’s carnival events.

On the ground floor of the museum, visitors will find the “History of the Limassol Carnival” section, which features the archives of historian and researcher Titos Kolotas, as well as other important figures who wrote about carnivals.

The route continues with five thematic sections where visitors can open boxes and explore exhibits related to Cyclopempty, a grand parade, music and singers, dancing and a children’s parade. In the museum’s great hall, visitors can watch instructional videos, learn how to dance carnival dances, and take part in interactive classes involving matching objects with matching costumes.

In addition, visitors can get acquainted with archival materials from the RIC and private archives, and the halls dedicated to the creators of costumes and platforms provide another unique opportunity to explore the art behind the carnival.

The museum ends with an impressive corridor leading to the courtyard, where the visitor can walk along the routes of the grand parade and see a number of structures and decorative elements that took the form of local festive events.

The Limassol Carnival Museum is now open to the public and is the perfect place to experience the uniqueness of Limassol Carnival and explore the heart of the city through its most vibrant festivities!
