In Paphos, the cold destroyed 500 tons of potatoes

According to Kostas Neofitou, a representative of the agricultural insurance department of the District Department of Agriculture, the damaged potato plantation area is 500 acres.

Specialists from the Department of Agriculture began recording damage on Monday morning, February 24, in the areas of Polis Chrysochous, east and west Paphos, as well as in the foothills between the communities of Polemi and Strumpi.

As Neofitu noted, so far this is a preliminary assessment, and in the near future the authorities will announce the procedure for declaring damage. The affected farmers will be able to submit the relevant documents within 15 days.

In addition to potato fields, citrus orchards and banana plantations are also subject to inspection. However, according to the expert, most of the bananas have already been harvested, so no significant damage has been done to this crop.

The largest losses were recorded in the villages of Mantria, Timi, Kuklia, Geroskipou, Anarita, Akhelia, Agia Varvara, as well as in Emba and Kissonerga, where smaller areas were affected.
