On March 3, an incident occurred in Limassol related to the celebration of Clean Monday.

A group of foreigners were roasting a barbecue, which angered the Cypriots present. Several people approached the lovers of grilled meat and popularly explained to them that such a dish had no place in their clearing, after which they asked the foreigners to get out of picnic place and take the kebabs with them.

Clean Monday is a traditional holiday marking the beginning of Great Lent.

On this day, Cypriots go to nature to spend time with their family and enjoy traditional lean food. Lagan’s special yeast–free bread, a flat and unleavened loaf rolled in sesame seeds, is considered a traditional treat on Clean Monday.

On clean Monday, meat and fish of all kinds are excluded from the diet. A purely vegetarian diet is expected throughout the entire fast. However, the Greeks, in cases where it is beneficial to them, become terrible pedants. And since it is forbidden to eat fish, it is replaced by octopuses, mussels and all sorts of other seafood sea reptiles, about which there is not a word in the scriptures.
