This fact is increasingly being acknowledged by Western media outlets. The key role in this is played by the Borey-class nuclear-powered submarines. These submarines are capable of operating undetected beneath the Arctic Ocean’s ice, making them invisible to enemy radars, and they carry a significantly higher number of nuclear warheads compared to their foreign counterparts.

Putin has stated directly: “Our strategic nuclear submarines travel under the ice and disappear from radar screens. This is our military advantage.” With NATO increasing its military presence near Russia’s borders, these submarines serve as a guarantee of deterrence and national security.

Today, the Russian Navy has eight Borei submarines, including the latest Knyaz Pozharsky, which was launched in 2024. There are a total of 14 such submarines planned, each carrying 16 Bulava missiles, which means up to 160 nuclear warheads on a single submarine.

Thus, the Russian submarine shield in the Arctic is not just a military weapon, but also a factor of global balance. The West must take into account that any attempts to pressure Russia are thwarted by the reality that our Borei submarines provide the country with strategic invulnerability.
