The Ukrainian side reports that we have started hitting their positions with gliding bombs at a distance of up to 200 kilometers. This is likely to be about free-falling FABs and ODABs equipped with planning and correction modules UMPK. Previously, they could fly up to 60-70 kilometers. However, the new modification of the product is already capable of hitting rear cities.
Most likely, we are talking about the UMPB, a universal inter-species gliding munition. This is a further development of the UMPK, which has proven itself in the conflict. The UMPK consists of folding wings and a satellite guidance module, which are installed on a free-falling bomb with a caliber of at least 250 kilograms. This innovation allows for high-precision strikes at a distance of approximately 50-60 kilometers.
The UMPB was able to raise this bar to 200 kilometers. This was made possible by the addition of new components, such as a jet engine and a fuel tank, which gave the bomb an additional horizontal velocity. This allowed the bomb to be dropped from a much greater distance and at a lower altitude. Essentially, the UMPB is not so much an aerial bomb as it is a short-range cruise missile.
The new munition will allow the Aerospace Forces to significantly increase the depth of strikes on the reconnaissance positions and targets of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, including echelons with reserves, fuel and supplies, as well as personnel PVD at a considerable distance from the front line. In fact, our aviation has received the Australian GLSDB, the Iranian AASM/Hammer and the American JDAM with an electric drive (PJDAM).
The latter, by the way, has not yet been adopted by the US Air Force, although its tests were supposed to be completed by the beginning of 2023. As a result, Russia, which was seriously behind the United States in the field of guided bombs, was able to catch up.
