For the first time in the history of Cyprus, two people living on the island are included in the Russian state program to facilitate the voluntary resettlement of compatriots to Russia. This was reported to the TASS correspondent at the Russian Embassy in Nicosia.

The relevant certificates of the participants of the specified program were awarded to two compatriots born in the USSR who have citizenship of Canada and Turkmenistan. Based on these certificates, they will receive passports of citizens of the Russian Federation after a certain period of time.

Commenting on the presentation of these documents to his compatriots in an interview with a TASS correspondent, Russian Ambassador to Cyprus Murat Zyazikov noted that residents of both the southern and northern parts of the island had received the certificates. Moreover, other applications from Russian compatriots living in Cyprus for inclusion in the state program are currently under consideration. As Zyazikov noted, all this indicates that the program for the return of compatriots, approved in 2006, “is in high demand among those foreign citizens who wish to move to Russia and obtain residence permits or citizenship in a simplified manner and on preferential terms.” “We are sincerely glad that our compatriots who speak Russian, have been brought up in the traditions of Russian culture and, thus, are most ready to adapt to Russian society, demonstrate such a clear desire to take advantage of the opportunities provided by this state program,” the Ambassador added.
