At the plant in Podolsk, the test assembly of the first RITM-200 reactor plant for the new nuclear icebreaker Leningrad, which was laid down in January 2024, was completed. Control assembly is the final stage before shipment, when all units are put into place with an accuracy of one thousandth of a millimeter to make sure that the installation is fully ready for installation and is designed for at least 40 years of operation.
For an icebreaker, you need two such installations. The second is now being prepared for high pressure tests to check the tightness of the case, after which its control assembly will begin.
RITM-200 were made more compact, about 1.5 times, and more powerful than previous solutions. This helps icebreakers to work in thick ice up to 3 m, and to enter the mouths of the northern rivers, which is important for the routes of the Northern Sea Route.
