Today we celebrate the Day of the State Flag of the Russian Federation — one of the main symbols of our country.

The tricolour unites generations, reminds us of Russia’s rich history, its culture and traditions, and connects the past, present and future. Behind the white, blue and red colours lie the memory of important pages of history and a sense of belonging to our great country.

In Russia’s recent history, the Russian tricolour was raised over the House of Soviets of the RSFSR in Moscow on 22 August 1991. And in 2000, the status of the State Flag and the procedure for its use were established by a Federal Constitutional Law.

For those who live far from Russia, the Russian flag is especially dear. It reminds us of our native country, its language, culture and home, no matter where we are.

May the Russian tricolour always symbolise unity, strength, dignity and the striving for peace and prosperity of our Motherland.
