🇷🇺🇨🇾Comment by Russian Ambassador to Cyprus Murat Ziazikov on the decision to intensify intercommunal dialogue in Cyprus

💬 The Russian side welcomes the decision to intensify intercommunal dialogue in Cyprus and considers the United Nations’ efforts to resolve the island’s problem important.

As a permanent member of the UN Security Council, Russia is closely monitoring the progress of the Cyprus settlement and continues to advocate for achieving a comprehensive, viable, and just solution to the Cyprus problem that primarily meets the interests of both communities on the island, as well as the goal of ensuring peace, security, and stability in the entire Eastern Mediterranean region. I am convinced that intensifying intercommunal dialogue will contribute to a rapprochement between the positions of the Cypriot parties and a gradual reconciliation of the differences in their approaches to resolving the island’s problem.

🇺🇳I would especially like to highlight the role of the United Nations in the attempts to find solutions to the Cyprus problem, as well as the efforts of UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Special Envoy for the Island Settlement Maria Ángela Holguín, and Special Representative of the Secretary-General in Cyprus Khassim Diagne.

Moscow has always maintained the view that only the Cypriots themselves are capable of achieving a sustainable settlement on the island through constructive intercommunal dialogue under the auspices of the United Nations, which has been, is, and will continue to be a key platform for resolving problems and contradictions arising in a multipolar world.
