Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a UN Security Council meeting on Ukraine that Moscow does not plan to stop hostilities for the sake of talks with the Ukrainian side.
Lavrov noted that Russia is open to negotiations in order to achieve a “sustainable and just peace.” At the same time, he said, this is not about a ceasefire agreement, but about a long-term peace treaty that would end the conflict.
“Taught by bitter experience, we will not pause the special military operation during negotiations in any format,” Lavrov stated.
He also said that European states are interested in suspending hostilities so that Ukraine can replenish its weapons stocks.
