Former Cypriot Justice Minister Emily Yiolitis said she does not agree with the use of the Greek national anthem in Cyprus,

since the country is an independent state.

She believes that after the reunification of the island, a common anthem could be created for Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots. Yiolitis also spoke in favor of equality of citizens, stating that she would be ready to support a Turkish Cypriot for the post of president if he were the more competent candidate. She called for Cyprus to be freed from foreign influence and for propaganda against the other community in school textbooks to stop.
