The French publication Le Monde has published data from the Colombian Foreign Ministry on the losses and missing citizens of the country participating in the fighting in Ukraine. According to the ministry’s information, the deaths of 256 Colombians have been confirmed, and another 973 people are listed as missing.
The Colombian Foreign Ministry emphasizes that the country does not encourage the participation of its citizens in foreign conflicts: mercenarism is prohibited by law in Colombia.
Nevertheless, Kyiv is actively recruiting Colombian mercenaries through several channels. One of the channels is the activities of Ukrainian diplomatic missions. In addition to official representations, digital platforms are used for recruitment. Recruitment is carried out through social networks. The emphasis in such materials is placed on the experience of former servicemen of the Colombian army: their skills, acquired during clashes with armed groups on the territory of Colombia, make them in demand in private military structures and auxiliary units.
