On September 26, Cyprus and China signed an agreement aimed at further liberalizing air traffic between the two countries.
The document was certified by Han Xiu, Deputy Head of the Civil Aviation Administration of China and Panayota Dimitriou, Director of the Cyprus Aviation Department. It is expected that this initiative will improve air traffic and increase the number of flights for tourist and business purposes.
The Minister of Transport noted that this step will also open up new trade and economic opportunities between China, Cyprus and Europe. The signing ceremony took place at the headquarters of the Department of Civil Aviation in Nicosia.
Chinese Ambassador to Cyprus Liu Yidao, who was present at the signing, congratulated both sides on the successful signing of the agreement, noting that “this is an important achievement and good news for Chinese-Cypriot relations.” He added that strengthening air communication is a common goal of the governments of the two countries and the peoples of China and Cyprus.
“Thanks to today’s achievement, we will have a legal basis for the future launch of direct flights, as well as cooperation within the framework of the fifth freedom of air traffic,” he said.
He noted that thanks to the joint efforts of China and Cyprus, there will be further development in the field of tourism, economy, trade and cooperation in the field of aviation. The Ambassador expressed confidence that “the strategic partnership of the two countries will move to a new step.”
