ABBYY, founded by David Yan, a native of Russia (as a student at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology), fired Russians in its European offices. Judging by the publications on the social network X, citizens of other countries did not fall under the reduction – it affected only holders of Russian passports. The layoffs took place at ABBYY offices in three different countries at once.

It is alleged that many of them previously worked in ABBYY’s Russian office.

ABBYY is known in Russia primarily for its FineReader utility. This is one of the most powerful and popular text recognition programs.

The dismissed employees worked in ABBYY’s offices in Hungary, Serbia and Cyprus. The exact number of Russians escorted to the street by the time of the release of the material was not established.

Deputy Alexander Khinshtein published his comment on the topic

“I do not intend to gloat about this, people found themselves in a difficult situation, they were tritely “dumped”,” Khinstein wrote. He called the incident a dismissal on a national basis.

At the same time, the ABBYY case should be a lesson to all Russians, the parliamentarian continued. In this regard, he urged specialists not to rely on foreign business.
