The highly aesthetic design of the building, spacious and stylish rooms, as well as luxurious comfortable mattresses create an environment that radically improves the concept of student accommodation. This project cannot but generate comparisons that highlight the feeling of longing for the existing student dormitories in the country, far from such a level of quality and comfort.
This new complex is part of the broader strategy of the Municipality of Paphos for the development of higher education in the region. The goal is to turn Paphos into an educational center that will attract students not only from Cyprus, but also from abroad. Already, with the advent of the School of Tourism Management of the Cyprus University of Technology (TE.PA.K.) and the newly established American University of Beirut – Mediterraneo, the city is beginning to acquire its academic character. What makes this project truly special is that for the first time in Cyprus, local authorities are taking over the creation and management of a student dormitory. The Municipality of Paphos did not limit itself to the construction of a building, but focused on meeting an urgent social need: providing affordable and modern housing for students, while providing appropriate conditions for their living.
The history of the project begins in January 2022, when the municipal council, on the initiative of Mayor Fedonos Fedonas, decided to start creating a hostel. The project was completed within two years and cost a total of 15 million euros. The erected building is imposing and elegant, with a total area of 5,540 square meters, located in a privileged location next to the TEPAK School.
But it’s not just the location that makes it unique. The building with modern infrastructure, comfortable rooms and high standard common areas is an example of what student life can be like. Designed with comfort and practicality in mind, students have at their disposal a space that can meet all their needs, while at the same time offering them an environment conducive to calmness and concentration.
The fact that most of the financing was secured through a loan from the European Investment Bank with a government guarantee shows the state’s confidence in this enterprise. The Municipality of Paphos has managed to secure the resources for the purchase of land, strengthening its commitment to completing this project. The cost of renting rooms in the new student dormitories of the municipality of Paphos is 550 euros per month, and this price reflects the high level of amenities and modern aesthetics of the premises. At the same time, for students from low-income families, the rent is set at 350 euros per month, in an effort by the municipality to support financially vulnerable groups and ensure that all students have access to comfortable and high-quality living conditions.
The new hostel of Paphos is not just a building. It is a symbol of a new era for the city, investments in education, youth and its development as a modern academic center. With this project, Paphos aims to strengthen its place on the map of higher education by offering its students not only academic opportunities, but also a high-quality daily life that will help them thrive and succeed.
Inside the rooms, clean lines and simplicity of design are combined with comfort and functionality. Each room has large glass doors that allow light to enter the space, opening an unobstructed view of the city. The rooms are equipped with everything necessary for a comfortable stay: modern furniture, a desk, a comfortable bed, a small refrigerator and a TV, which creates an ideal environment for studying and relaxing.
The exterior of the building is especially impressive, which, especially at night, is illuminated by discreet spotlights that emphasize its architecture. The multi-storey building is surrounded by well-kept grounds and has balconies overlooking the city.
