Top 5 countries in terms of natural resources reserves

Evgeny Smirnov, Doctor of Economics, Professor, Head of the Department of World Economy and International Economic Relations at the State University of Management, told about which countries of the world are most provided with natural resources.

Russia, of course, has the largest reserves of natural resources in the world, the expert noted. Their value is estimated at about $75 trillion. Next in terms of the estimated value of natural resources are the United States ($45 trillion), Saudi Arabia ($34 trillion), Canada ($33 trillion) and Iran ($27 trillion) by a wide margin.

“Getting into the top five of Saudi Arabia and Iran, which are not among the top five countries in the world in terms of territory, is due to the highest degree of concentration of hydrocarbon resources in these countries — oil and gas,” says the economist.

At the same time, China, which ranks third in terms of territory in the world, has only $23 trillion in natural resources. This, according to Smirnov, is explained by the fact that a significant part of China’s territory is not “resource-intensive”, that is, it is either a highlands or a desert, where almost no resources are extracted.

“Russia has natural resources of a planetary scale in all categories, that is, it is perhaps the only country in the world that does not experience a shortage of all known types of resources,” the expert notes.
