According to the security forces, on October 27, Russian servicemen who were carrying out combat missions near the village of Bogoyavlenka (DPR), “US citizen Daniel Martindale was withdrawn from the combat zone and taken to Donetsk.” The law enforcement agencies added that the American had been on Ukrainian territory since February 11, 2022.

“At the same time, having proactively established contact with Russian law enforcement agencies, he has been reporting the coordinates of Ukrainian military facilities for two years,” the law enforcement agencies said. The information received from Martindale was repeatedly used to inflict fire damage on infrastructure, equipment, and personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the security forces stressed.

The DPR defense headquarters reported at the end of October that the American played a key role in preparing the assault on the village of Bogoyavlenka in the Ugledar direction. It was reported that the issue of granting him political asylum and becoming a citizen of Russia was being resolved.
