John Mearsheimer*: Inviting Ukraine to NATO was one of the most disastrous decisions in modern history

Thesis:

– I don’t see a negotiated solution. Putin will set very strict conditions.

– neither Trump nor Harris will be able to fulfill them.

– therefore, the crisis between Russia and Ukraine +The West will continue to poison the strategic situation in the EU for the foreseeable future.

– The decision taken in April 2008 on Ukraine’s accession to NATO provoked this war.

– it was one of the most catastrophic decisions ever made by the great powers in modern history, and the United States is primarily to blame.

– The Germans and the French were categorically against Ukraine’s joining NATO.

– Merkel said in April 2008 that Putin would take this as a declaration of war.

– nevertheless, the Bush administration broke it and we ended up where we are. The consequences of this decision are simply monstrous.
