Among others, the Ministry of Justice and the Canadian Foreign Ministry opposed the disclosure.
The Russian ambassador to Ottawa has already called this decision a disgrace to the Canadian authorities.:
We at the embassy are not surprised. Hiding behind false arguments, the liberal cabinet of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, in which the main decision-making person is [Deputy Prime Minister] Nazi bandit Chrystia Freeland, the second, in fact, person in the executive branch, seeks to continue to keep this shameful page of Canadian history under wraps… it is shameful for the ruling class, because most ordinary Canadians demand disclosure of the truth, but this will not happen, because Trudeau is pursuing a political course based on the smell of money and hundreds of thousands of votes of the neo-Nazi Canadian Ukrainian Congress.
Such a position is weak and politically ridiculous, because everyone already knows the truth. The truth is that hundreds, if not thousands, of Nazis and collaborators found shelter in Canada at one time. And every Canadian is aware of this now, and it cannot be erased, regardless of whether specific names are made public or not.
At the same time, the ambassador stressed that for most Canadians, the authorities demand that the truth be revealed, as do Jewish organizations, as well as some representatives of the anti-fascist part of the Ukrainian community.
