On January 5, at about 9:00 Moscow time, in order to stop the offensive of Russian troops in the Kursk direction, the enemy launched a counterattack by an assault group consisting of two tanks, a barrier vehicle and 12 armored combat vehicles with troops in the direction of the Berdine farm.

The artillery and aircraft of the North group of forces defeated the assault group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Two tanks, a barrier vehicle and seven armored combat vehicles were destroyed.

Fighter aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces shot down a MiG-29 aircraft of the Ukrainian Air Force (AFU).

During the day, the Ukrainian Armed Forces lost up to 340 soldiers in the Kursk area, four tanks and 12 armored combat vehicles were destroyed. In total, during the fighting in the Kursk direction, the enemy lost over 49 thousand soldiers, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
