In Cyprus, the rules for officials are tightened:

a new control commission is being created

The Ministry of Justice introduced a bill that introduces strict control over conflicts of interest among state and independent officials. A special Commission for investigation of incompatibility and employment is being created. 🏛 ️

 

What is forbidden to officials:

 

🔹 Hold both public office and executive positions in public sector companies

 

🔹 Participate in organizations owning mass media

 

🔹 Participate in government decisions after leaving the private sector (first two years)

 

Who will be checked: the president, ministers, deputies, mayors, members of independent bodies and others. 👥

 

Commission (appointed by the Council of Ministers for 5 years):

 

🔹 President – with the powers of a judge of the Supreme Court

 

🔹 Chief Accountant of the Republic

 

🔹 Prosecutor of the Republic

 

Penalties:

 

📌 For false statements – up to €30,000 or up to 3 years in prison

 

📌 For refusal to cooperate – up to €10,000 or up to 1 year in prison

 

📌 The goal is transparency, independence and protection of public interests.
