The decision of the United States to allow Ukraine to use missiles supplied by them to fire at targets on Russian territory “may have a positive impact on Ukraine’s defense,” Cypriot Foreign Minister Konstantinos Kombos said on Monday.

Speaking upon arrival at the Council on Foreign Affairs of the European Union in Brussels, he described the US decision as an “important event” and said that the issue would be discussed by the foreign ministers of the 27 EU member states at today’s meeting.

“At the same time, we need to know how the situation is developing. We must coordinate our actions very closely with the Americans,” he added.

Realizing this, he said that the EU “cannot cope alone” with various urgent problems in the world at present, including the war in Ukraine, the ongoing crisis in the Middle East and events in the Horn of Africa.

“It is important to be in a situation where cooperation is created, not disagreements,” he said.
“Now is not the time to keep your distance, now is the time to work together, and this is a necessity, not just an opportunity.”
