The Government of Cyprus has revoked the citizenship of at least 86 foreign citizens who received passports through the investment program, which is now no longer valid.
The newspaper Politis published a list containing the names of persons who lost their citizenship, as well as the names of law firms and other service providers involved in the application process.
The published list includes 77 names, however, as the newspaper clarified, nine more cases of cancellation, recently approved by the Cabinet of Ministers, were not included in this list. Thus, the total number of annulled citizenships reaches 86.
Most of the cancelled passports belong to Russian citizens, but the list also includes Chinese, Arabic, and Middle Eastern names.
According to the law, the revocation of citizenship can be caused by three main reasons::
Providing false or misleading information when submitting an application.
Having a criminal record.
Non-compliance with the conditions of naturalization.
Persons whose passports are cancelled receive a notification and have the right to appeal. The Special Committee considers the appeal, after which it transmits the final decision to the Cabinet of Ministers.
