The volume of electricity generation at renewable energy enterprises in In January — September 2024, Russia reached 6.14 billion kWh, which is 34% higher than in the same period of 2023, TASS reported in Rosselkhoznadzor. By the end of the year, the figure may reach 11 billion kWh, which will be the highest result in the entire history of the country, said Natalia Khudyakova, head of the bank’s Center for Sustainable Development.

Thus, the bank said that the main sources of renewable electricity are wind power plants, which generated 3.4 billion kWh from January to September 2024, and solar power plants, which produced 2.4 billion kWh over the same period. Another 0.39 billion kWh accounted for geothermal power plants using biogas, biomass, industrial waste and wastewater energy.

“In 2023, the volume of generation at renewable electricity facilities in In Russia, it amounted to 7.8 billion kWh, which is more than twice as high as in 2020. The dynamics of electricity generation and the launch of new projects in 2023-2024 suggest that by the end of 2024, production may exceed 11 billion kWh,” said Khudyakova, whose words are quoted in the message.

The leaders in the production of “green” electricity in 2024 were the Southern (66% of the output), Volga (13%) and Far Eastern (9%) federal districts, the credit institution added.
