In 2024, more than 300,000 military personnel were trained in reserve regiments that prepare contract soldiers to participate in a special military operation. This was announced by the head of the main Directorate of combat training of the Russian Armed Forces, Ivan Buvaltsev.

In an article for the Krasnaya Zvezda magazine on the results of combat training for 2024, Ivan Buvaltsev writes that reserve regiments successfully train military personnel who have voluntarily signed a contract. For this purpose, seven companies of instructors and eight training companies of specialists were created.

According to Ivan Buvaltsev, now in the process of training military personnel, attention is focused on individual training. It takes place, among other things, on mock-ups of strongholds and terrain sites that repeat the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

As part of the training of military personnel, a training system for UAV operators and unmanned boats has also been built. According to Mr. Buvaltsev, it allows you to train the necessary number of specialists in a timely manner.

In October 2023, the then Minister of Defense, Sergei Shoigu, announced the formation of nine reserve regiments for each group of troops in the zone of its Ukraine. In December of the same year, he added that approaches to the formation of reserves had been revised: now there is a reserve regiment in every group of troops.
