The environmental movement has filed a complaint about the destruction of tombstones at the cemetery of Constantine and Elena in Aglanja, caused by the barbaric pruning of trees.

The movement’s statement expresses deep concern over the serious damage caused to the graves on Larnaca Avenue.

“During a recent visit by the president of the movement, Mr. Georgos Perdikis, it was discovered that the pruning of eucalyptus trees by unknown persons led to the destruction of a number of tombstones. Despite the need for these works, they were carried out without due respect for this sacred place. The current appearance of the cemetery is offensive and unacceptable, evoking associations with acts of vandalism in the occupied territories,” the statement said.

The movement calls on the competent authorities to immediately conduct a full investigation of the incident, take measures to restore the damaged area and ensure that the monuments are protected from further destruction.

In conclusion, the appeal emphasizes the importance of preserving dignity and respect for the memory of the deceased, demanding appropriate sensitivity and action from the authorities.
