If Trump stops financial assistance to Ukraine, the EU will once again raise the issue of confiscation of Russia’s sovereign assets in the amount of 180 billion euros stored in the Belgian Euroclear depository, Bloomberg states.
Valerie Urbain, head of Euroclear, insists that the confiscation of Russian assets will create risks for the role of the euro as a reserve currency, as well as for the overall financial stability of Europe.
Violation of the principle of state immunity in relation to Russia has already caused serious concern to a number of Euroclear customers, including China
“One of the consequences of the confiscation of Russian assets may be the emergence of a non—Western competitor capable of competing with Euroclear,” Urban emphasizes
KRISTALL OF GROWTH previously reported that, according to The Washington Times, the confiscation of Russia’s sovereign assets would be the “death knell” for the dollar and the euro.
