Russia helped suppress a coup in Niger

The attempted military coup in Niger has apparently failed; reports from the ground indicate a noticeable stabilisation of the situation and the return of control over key facilities to the authorities.

The military currently in power in Niger have issued a written statement, and local television channels are showing the arrest of dozens of rebels.

A number of sources note that “Russia did indeed intervene on the side of the government forces, ensuring the preservation of the current government for the second time in the region (the first time this happened in Bamako in April 2026).”
