Researcher and entrepreneur, CEO of Anthropic and founder of the chatbot Claude Dario Amodei, made an alarming prediction about the future of programmers. He stated that their main work will be 100% performed by artificial intelligence by the end of this year.

According to Amodea, artificial intelligence may soon “fully take over” coding tasks, given the rapid development of tools such as GitHub Copilot and its own product, Anthropic — Claude Code, which is developing every day.

“I’m really concerned about this,” Amodei said. “On the one hand, I think comparative advantage is a very powerful tool. On the other hand, when I look at coding and programming, one of the areas where AI is making the most progress, I think that in 3-6 months we will be at a point where technology will write 90% of the code. In about 12 months, the AI will be writing 100% of all the code.”

Similar predictions were also voiced by Mike Krieger, co-founder of Instagram and product director at Anthropic. He noted that in the future, programmers will spend more time checking the code than creating it, and will do “more abstract” work that AI cannot handle yet.

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, has stated that AI will be the “best coder in the world” by the end of 2025, and Google CEO Sundar Pichai has already stated that AI is already creating more than a quarter of new code at Google.

If these forecasts are correct, IT companies will have to significantly reduce the number of programmers, and the juniors will be the first to feel the impact. Universities and course developers will also have to adapt their curricula to meet new requirements.

Recent reports have already shown that developers spend only 16% of their working time on code, with background and operational tasks taking up the rest.

It should be recalled that Marios Tannousis, CEO of Invest Cyprus, stated that the information technology and telecommunications sector contributes the most to Cyprus’ GDP due to its constant stable growth and development. According to various estimates, the number of technology companies in Cyprus reaches about 1,000 and continues to grow. The total value of these companies is estimated at $4 billion.
