Rosatom and the Chinese shipping company Hainan Yangpu New New Shipping organize year-round navigation along the Northern Sea Route (NSR). The agreement on this was signed on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

The parties will create a joint venture for the construction of high-ice class container ships. Up to five vessels are planned to be delivered at the first stage. The first vessel is scheduled to sail no later than 2027.

NewNew Shipping is one of the first foreign operators to launch regular flights along the Northern Sea Route. Last year, the company acquired six Arctic-class vessels, on which it carried out the first eight voyages in the waters of the NSR.

It is planned to make 12 flights in 2024. So far, the sea line is limited to the summer-autumn period without ice navigation.

The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum was held from 5 to 8 June 2024.
