Limassol police have entered a high-security mode after the second criminal incident in a short period of time, directed against a foreign entrepreneur well-known in the business community of Cyprus.
We are talking about a businessman who in the past worked closely with Stavros Dimosthenus, who was killed earlier under high-profile circumstances. The recurrence of the attacks has caused serious concern among law enforcement agencies and has become a reason to take additional security measures.
In late November, unidentified individuals set fire to luxury cars belonging to a 40-year-old entrepreneur. Despite the fact that the actions of the attackers were recorded by video surveillance cameras, and a security officer was on site, it has not yet been possible to detain the suspects. The investigation continues to analyze the video materials and the collected evidence.
A new attack took place on Thursday night and was already directed against a commercial facility of the same owner. At about 03:40, an unknown person approached the entrance of the liquor store and set fire to the facade of the building with a flammable substance. As a result of the fire, material damage was caused, mainly the glass showcase was damaged. Thanks to the rapid actions of the fire service, it was possible to quickly localize the fire and prevent it from spreading to neighboring premises.
Commenting on the situation, the head of the Limassol Criminal Investigation Department, Kostas Mikhail, said that the police had assessed the threat level and were already implementing specific measures to protect the businessman and his property. In particular, patrols have been stepped up near his place of residence, as well as near his shops and other business facilities. These actions are aimed at preventing new incidents and ensuring a sense of security.
The investigation of both crimes is ongoing, while the police do not rule out that the arson attacks may be related. Law enforcement agencies are considering all possible versions, including personal motives, professional activities and possible links to previous criminal cases. The authorities stress that the situation is under control, and security in Limassol remains a priority.
