The Oman-flagged QENDIL vessel was sailing from India to Russia and was located in a transport corridor in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. On the night of December 18-19, the ship was attacked by kamikaze drones 150 kilometers from Greece and Libya. The tanker did not lose steam, but turned around and headed for Egypt.
The SBU claimed responsibility for the attack, which released a video of the attack on the tanker. Judging by the footage, the ship was attacked using a Baba Yaga-type drone, which dropped several mines on the deck. No injuries were reported.
Given the flight range of the Baba Yaga drone at 10-15 kilometers, experts say that the SBU used a vessel to launch it. According to maritime law, it is considered piratical and can be destroyed by any maritime power.
