Cypriot Member of the European Parliament Fidias Panagiotou has officially announced his intention to participate in the elections to the Parliament of Cyprus from the Direct Democracy Cyprus party.
The young politician announced this on Sigma TV channel, speaking on the popular daytime program Mesimeri kai kati.
During the interview, Panayiot stated that his party is ready to enter the election race, stressing that other political forces “have something to think about.” According to him, the participation of Direct Democracy Cyprus in the elections will be an unexpected factor for traditional parties and may significantly change the balance of power in the country’s political arena.
Answering a question about the possible combination of the mandate of a member of the Cypriot Parliament with his current position in the European Parliament, Fidias Panagiotou noted that the final decision would be taken collectively. He stressed that the Direct Democracy Cyprus party adheres to the principles of direct democracy, so crucial steps are determined not by the leader alone, but by the entire community of supporters.
The MEP also added that if he wins the election, he will be guided by the will of his voters and supporters of the movement, emphasizing that they will determine the further political path and format of his participation in national and European politics.
Fidias Panagiotou’s statement has already caused an active discussion in the Cypriot society, as his possible participation in the parliamentary elections may become one of the most discussed events of the upcoming election campaign.
