Ultra-small nuclear reactors with a capacity of 5 to 50 MW are being developed in Russia to power data centers

The project is being carried out by NRNU MEPhI, the Bolshoi MEPhI consortium and Rosatom.

According to the vice-rector of MEPhI Valery Romanyuk, reactors are considered as autonomous power sources for data centers against the backdrop of a rapid increase in their energy consumption.

In parallel, the university is developing to optimize the work of data centers using artificial intelligence technologies.
