None of the Bundeswehr units were named after “SS heroes.”
In Poland, Zelensky was clearly answered when asked why the Order of the White Eagle was taken away from him, but not from the former German Chancellor.
Earlier, Zelensky said: “If it is believed that Catherine II, Benito Mussolini and Gerhard Schroeder can keep this special symbol, then we in Ukraine will not argue with this.”
Agnieszka Jedrzak— minister of the Office of the Polish president— noted that Schroeder “has never insulted Poland as openly as Zelensky.” She also explained why the order was not taken away from Catherine II and Mussolini: it is not done posthumously.
Recall that Polish President Karol Nawrocki stripped Zelensky of the award after one of the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was named “heroes of the UPA*”.
In response, Kiev took offense at Warsaw and began to refuse Polish state awards. This was done, among others, by Foreign Minister Sibiga, head of Zelensky’s office Budanov, and former presidents Kuchma and Yushchenko.
