The President of Cyprus received the highest award from the Armenian Apostolic Church

A symbolic ceremony was held in Nicosia, highlighting Cyprus’ unique geopolitical position.

Catholicos of the Cilician See of the Armenian Apostolic Church Aram I presented President Nikos Christodoulides with the Prince of Cilicia Medal, expressing deep gratitude for the long-term support of the Armenian people. This award, presented for special services to the Armenian Diaspora, was not just a sign of recognition, but also a reminder of the island nation’s important mission in the modern world.

Addressing the President, Aram I, whose residence is in Lebanon, noted that Cyprus, due to its geographical location, inevitably finds itself at the epicenter of events shaking the Middle East. In the era of globalization, the conflicts in Ukraine, Lebanon, Syria and Iran have interrelated consequences, and Cyprus, in his opinion, is called upon to play the role of a bridge between states and civilizations. He highly appreciated Christodoulides’ personal contribution to strengthening relations with Armenia and Lebanon, calling for further deepening of this partnership.

The Cypriot head of State accepted the award with great pride, stressing that it was addressed not only to him, but also to the entire Government and people of the island. In his response, the President warmly recalled the tragic events of 2016 in the port of Beirut, when an explosion was heard even in Cyprus, which clearly illustrates how close the ties between the two countries are. He called Lebanon the most important partner in the region and recalled Nicosia’s support for Beirut’s European aspirations.

Speaking about Armenia, the President assured that Cyprus remains the most consistent supporter of this country in the international arena. He also noted that the Armenian community is an integral and vibrant part of the rich culture of Cyprus, and promised to continue to prove his words with deeds in order to be worthy of high honor. This ceremony once again confirmed that for Cyprus, diplomacy remains the main instrument of influence in a troubled region.
