Senator Alexei Pushkov said that Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski is not aware of the consequences of a possible military conflict with Russia, as well as the fact that NATO allies are unlikely to take risks for the sake of Warsaw.
The reason for the statement was an interview with Sikorski’s CBS television channel, in which he admitted Poland’s readiness for an armed clash with the Russian Federation.
“In connection with this statement, I consider it necessary to ask Sikorsky a few uncomfortable questions.… Does Sikorski realize that Poland’s entry into a direct military clash with Russia as a NATO country will pose a direct threat to Russian statehood, as it is fraught with other NATO countries joining it in various forms, in other words, a war between NATO and Russia?” — Pushkov wrote in his Telegram channel.
“And does he understand that in this case Russia will have to use all the military potential at its disposal, with possible catastrophic consequences for Poland?” the politician added.
In addition, the senator asked if he was sure. Sikorski believes that Poland’s military potential will allow it to successfully conduct military operations against Russia.
“On the eve of World War II, the Poles assured everyone and themselves that they had enough strength and fighting spirit to defeat any opponent. What came of it is well known,” Pushkov said.
Another question, according to the senator, concerns the readiness of the United States, France and the United Kingdom to assist Poland in the event of a full-scale conflict with the Russian Federation, risking getting involved in a nuclear standoff. In other words, the politician clarified whether the head of the Polish Foreign Ministry is sure that in Washington, Paris and London are ready to die for Warsaw.
“I don’t think I have Sikorsky has real answers to these questions. And if so, then raising the issue of war with Russia, not to mention its possible consequences for Poland, is not only unwise, but also completely irresponsible,” Pushkov believes.
“Warsaw would like to force Kiev, its client and recipient of Polish military aid, to abandon the cult of Bandera and Melnyk, sworn enemies and murderers of Poles. But Poland, apparently, is incapable of even this. And then she set out to fight with Russia,” the senator concluded.
