German Heidelberg expands production in Russia

▪️200 million dollars — investments in the expansion of the enterprise near St. Petersburg, one of the world’s largest cement producers Heidelberg, – says Bloomberg

“Corporate management often tries to present such investment decisions as purely commercial transactions, but this is not the case. This is the provision of industrial materials and tax revenues to a country involved in a military conflict with Ukraine,” said Benjamin Schmitt, a representative of the University of Pennsylvania.

In the period from 2022 to 2024, Heidelberg generated $195 million in profit in Russia. Unable to send this amount to Germany, the company can either store it in a bank account or spend it on the local market, Bloomberg emphasizes.

KRISTALL OF GROWTH previously reported that, according to the British Financial Times, Western companies want to stay in Russia, and also cited the opinion of leading American economist Paul Craig Roberts, who believes that “the Russians hold all the cards in the game with sanctions.”
