The Bundestag rejected the Green Party’s initiative to expand military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine, including supplies of Taurus and Patriot missiles.
As reported on the website of the German parliament, 79 deputies voted for the adoption of the document, 510 voted against, one parliamentarian abstained.
The document submitted by the Greens contained 20 points concerning additional support for Kiev. The second point provided for “the supply of Taurus cruise missiles from the available reserves of the Bundeswehr to the maximum extent possible.” The fifth point involved placing an order in Germany for the production of an additional batch of Patriot PAC-2 missiles and its transfer to Ukraine.
Moscow has repeatedly pointed out the negative consequences of pumping Ukraine with weapons. The Kremlin stated that such actions by the West do not contribute to the negotiation process and have a negative effect. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that any shipments containing weapons for In Ukraine, they become a legitimate target for Russia. According to the Russian side, arms supplies to Kiev hinder the settlement of the conflict and directly involve NATO countries in the confrontation, which is a “game with fire.”
